Why does our office not agree with conventional chiropractic as a solution?
Conventional chiropractic involves an "in and out" adjustment and ultimately will not correct what is causing you to misalign in the first place. They don't produce permanent spinal correction. They may temporarily change symptoms but won't correct the spine. Soon after an adjustment we return to our daily lives of bad postural habits .
The only way to correct the spine is through combining spinal adjustments with postural correction. Postural correction is achieved by training your postural muscles as well as making your surroundings as ergonomic as possible. The muscles that support the spine are not able to be strengthened through traditional exercise, but through specific block exercises, traction, using the wobble chair as well as wearing the postural weighting system twice a day that can be done in the comfort of your own home.
Can Pettibon Chiropractic help with arthritis?
Yes. Arthritis develops over time as the body's reaction to physical stress placed on the joints. Pettibon chiropractic changes the structure of the spine and moves the physical stress of weight bearing to the strongest structures. This reduces arthritis and improves health naturally.
How does Pettibon Chiropractic help with a slipped / herniated disc?
Slipped or herniated discs occur when the disc fibers are torn. These fibers hold "jelly like" matter at the center of the disc in the center of the vertebra. This tearing allows the center of the disc to slip out and irritate the spinal cord or spinal nerve. Pettibon chiropractic uses procedures that separate the vertebrae by gently and repetitively pulling them apart. This action creates a suction action inside the center of the discs to pull the jully like bulge back to the center. Once the center of the disc is restored then spinal correction is used to make the restoration permanent.
I'm not currently having any pain, why should I still be examined by a chiropractor?
Pain is always the last sign to show up when a problem is present. There are internal warning signs that a misalignment has occured. For example, numbness in the arms/fingers indicates that the neck has a vertebrae that has shifted out of place and is cutting off nerve supply. By getting adjusted you are ensuring your nervous system, which controls your immune system, is functioning at its most optimal level. Therefore, another indicator would be your frequency of getting sick. If you are known to catch whatever cold is out there than your nervous system is not working as it should. The only way to be sure is to be thoroughly checked through examination and xray.
When I feel pain I just adjust myself, is that ok to do?
A chiropractor only adjusts those vertebrae that are misaligned. Adjusting yourself is not recommended because you're not trained in detecting specifically which vertebrae is the culprit for the pain. By shifting vertebrae in the vicinity of where you hurt you are potentially causing other vertebrae to misalign and ultimately cause more pain and discomfort.
